Adding all the missed gags together creates a great cheesy atmosphere that many of it's denouncers like to cite against it. In addition, the flies make a very welcome return in one of the film's best scenes. This first sequel in the Amityville saga was penned by Tommy Lee Wallace. Amityville II is by far the most terrifying of all the Amityville installments, and would not find a theater friendly R rating without some cuts even today.
This first sequel in the Amityville saga was penned by Tommy Lee Wallace. I was way cooler with the douchy guy, Rick, taking her virginity instead of her brother. Amityville II beat Halloween III on the release date by about a month, back in , but Druid sacrifice was way lighter fare than this. As more evidence mounts that it really is haunted, a series of supernatural occurrences freak out the family. He and his assistant, Melanie, Candy Clark start an investigation, and it starts to turn up real strange incidents. I hate to admit it, but several of the 3-D gags in here are quite good. A touch of violence, and it makes for a great ending. Bits and pieces of the film work, but they are too far separated by other scenes that take a while to get the film going. The gags are in between, with about half of them being effective or not. It deals with the fictional Montellis standing in for the real-life DeFeo family. The sweet deal the Lutzs got on the house by the water was a by-product of the mass murder of the DeFeo family that happened there first. He could be fine one second and slapping everyone around the next. In response to the really slow beginning, the ending is pretty action-packed and full of some great moments. That is a fundamental part of the success of the series, and the house allows for some great jump moments as well. Well, some of the 3-D gags obviously look very corny and not at all scary. It took a while to get to anything, as there was a long wait for something to happen. There's a couple of good things about this one. The build-up before it is a great suspense-builder, with the noises heard off-screen and the history of the house adding to the suspense in the moment. It's got an undeniable cheese factor to it, so only a fan of those kinds of movies or of the Amityville series will want to check this out. In addition, the flies make a very welcome return in one of the film's best scenes. Those are the better ones, though, so expect a couple others that are pretty striking. As is usual with the Amityville films, the house is really sinister and spooky-looking, and its huge attic windows that glare out light eyes, and its huge, imposing figure taking up a large amount of the screen. It was dark, hopeless, nihilistic, and evil. Adding all the missed gags together creates a great cheesy atmosphere that many of it's denouncers like to cite against it. Not only did the family in Amityville II die, but they were put through a ringer of Satanically amped up family dysfunction first. Amityville II acted as a prequel to the first film.
